Azania Bank PLC
East Africa's Leading Digital Transformation Bank, 2025.
What we built, and what changed.
Azania Bank PLC is a Tier One Tanzanian commercial bank, founded in 1995 and today majority-owned by Tanzania's national pension funds (PSSSF 51.32%, NSSF 28.04%). With ~US$823 Mn in assets, 27 branches and 7,000+ Wakala agents nationwide, Azania is a systemic institution whose technology choices carry national-scale implications for financial inclusion.
In January 2024, Azania engaged Techurate to deploy TigiOS™ and transform its service model from branch-dependent to fully omnichannel. Within 26 weeks, eight channels went live simultaneously, including an Open API Gateway connecting all five Tanzanian mobile-money networks (M-Pesa, Tigo Pesa, Airtel Money, Halo Pesa, TTCL Pesa) and a corporate banking module with full RBAC.
Twelve months later, Azania Bank was named Leading Digital Transformation Bank, East Africa 2025 at the Africa Bank 4.0 Awards in Nairobi.
